How should owners use the role and market comparison tool?
Pick roles and areas, and the tool lays published wages side by side so you can see how pay for one occupation shifts between markets, or how related occupations compare within one market. It helps when you are opening a new state, relocating a role or deciding which title to use.
Comparisons follow the occupation mapping shown on each role page. Some property titles map directly to a federal occupation; others use the closest proxy or a broader group. Read the mapping note before relying on a gap, because a proxy can blur differences that matter at your property.
Where historical data is available, median changes are shown as a dollar difference and a percentage of the earlier figure. Missing values stay missing rather than being estimated, so a blank cell means the source did not publish that figure.
Use the results to frame a conversation, not to set pay alone. Local commute, asset type and team support still shape what a strong candidate will accept.
What mistakes should owners avoid when comparing markets?
Avoid treating a median gap as the whole story, comparing a direct occupation match with a proxy as if they were equivalent, and ignoring blank cells. Each can mislead a pay or relocation decision. Read the mapping note and the published percentiles, not just the median, before drawing conclusions about another market.
Remember that metro and nonmetro areas are published separately. A portfolio spread across both may need a blended view that the tool cannot calculate for you.
Finally, check the release label. Comparing figures from different releases can show changes that reflect timing rather than the market.
For a relocation decision, compare the same occupation in both areas first, then look at related occupations in the destination. If a supervisor role pays close to a manager role in one market, that can shape how you structure the team there. Results are shown without an email, and the emailed report simply records the same figures with their source and release for your files. Treat each figure as a published benchmark, not an offer recommendation. When a destination market shows no published value for your occupation, look at the nearest metro or the state figure and note the substitution in your own records.

NAA CAM means Certified Apartment Manager. Florida CAM is the community association manager license, an example of state licensing where required. In accounting titles, CAM means common area maintenance. These are not interchangeable.

What else should you ask before starting this search?
Why do some comparisons show no value?
BLS does not publish every occupation in every area. The tool leaves those cells blank rather than estimate.
Can we compare our internal title directly?
Only through its mapped occupation. Check the mapping note to see whether the match is direct or a proxy.
When do we pay the recruiting fee?
No upfront fee. You pay only if you hire under the standard contingency agreement. The signed agreement sets the terms; read the fee page before authorizing the search.
How long does it take to see a short list?
The scope of the job, candidate availability and your interview decisions affect the search. We explain the market response and agree next steps rather than promise a numeric deadline.
What if our chosen candidate gets a counteroffer?
We ask about the reasons for a move before an introduction. You still need a clear offer and an honest account of the job; an increase in pay alone may not resolve why someone considered leaving.
What are the replacement terms?
We offer a candidate replacement guarantee on standard search agreements. The applicable period and exact terms are set out in the signed client recruiting agreement.
What do you not do?
We do not sell job-board reposting or send an unqualified resume stack. Standard permanent search is not hourly consulting or a retained assignment. Different engagements require agreed terms.

CAM has different meanings. NAA CAM is the Certified Apartment Manager credential. The Florida community association manager license is a separate license, cited here as an example of state licensing. In commercial budgets, CAM means common area maintenance. We check the credential or license relevant to the opening, where the state requires it.
